The Land of the Thunder Dragon

The Land of the Thunder Dragon

We touchdown at the Paro airport after soaring above the Himalayas and sneaking a peak at Everest. The decent was breath-taking despite being a little nerve racking winding through the Himalayan valleys. At one point, while filming the decent, I can be heard in the video whisper-yelling for Eric’s attention as we took a sharp turn, “Oh my gosh, Eric, look!!!! Eric! LOOK!” I wasn’t convinced the wing wasn’t going to clip the ground.

After landing safely, we deplaned onto the tarmac into the fresh air, surrounded by mountains. After lots of photos and “oohing and awing” we proceeded into the ornately painted airport adorned with cascading Himalayan wisteria. Our guide, Tenzin and driver, Ugyen greeted us each with a Khata, a white silk scarf, a gesture of welcome, respect, goodwill and the start of a good relationship. And with that, we climbed into the “sexy red van” and embarked on the adventure of a lifetime…
