Bumthang - Phobjikha

Bumthang - Phobjikha

We hopped back in the car for another six hour drive. This time to Phobjikha valley. The village of Phobjikha lies on the floor of a remote valley that is the winter home of the famous black-necked cranes. The cranes migrate from Tibet to spend the winter months in this protected valley. And when I say protected, I mean completely protected. They don’t allow people to build or farm in the valley!! While the last cranes had already migrated back to Tibet for the year, we were lucky enough to see two rescued cranes at the Black Neck Crane Center.

After, we hiked the Gangtey Nature trail. This hike was pretty easy and flat. It just overlooked the valley, the home of the cranes and we ended at our hotel in the valley.
